CURRENT A/W 2010 - THE GOOD LIFE
Paying homage to the quintessential social-climber Margot Leadbetter and classic British sitcom The Good Life, photographer Alice Hawkins offers a rather tongue-in-cheek and terribly English translation of the bourgeoisie undercurrent of the latest A/W 2010 collections. In this exclusive film produced for SHOWstudio.com, Alice introduces us to real-life, middle-class and absolutely fabulous ladies, luxuriously-clad by the likes of Miu Miu, Chanel and Louis Vuitton and captured in their native suburban habitat. With the deliberately ostentatious vibes of Parisian haute couture subverted by a healthy dose of robust humour, this latest addition to our fashion film editorial series ultimately showcase that prim indeed, does not have to be proper. COMING UP THE FASHION BODY - INTERACTIVE
This Friday 3 December 2010, we launch one of the final steps of The Fashion Body, the latest of SHOWstudio.com's exclusive fashion film seasons. Envisaging the fashion body films not only as individual works, but as part of a larger panorama of fashion-focussed filmmaking, multimedia designer Daniel Brown has devised a unique interactive to allow SHOWstudio.com viewers to view these varied and various films as part of a complete and whole 'Fashion Body'. Or maybe that should be 'almost complete', as next week we launch the final film of the Fashion Body, created by SHOWstudio.com director and founder Nick Knight. [more]
CURRENT 200 PORTRAITS | |
It is exactly one year to the day since Nick Knight took up residency in a studio at the centre of the SHOWstudio: Fashion Revolution exhibition at London's Somerset House to shoot a landmark series of portraits for i-D magazine - and today we launch our latest weekly selection of video portraits captured during the seventeen-day shoot. The personalities immortalised this week include artist Cerith Wyn Evans, music sensation Bishi, restauranteur and chef Fergus Henderson, and a phalanx of fashion design talent including Aitor Throup, Bella Freud, Amy Molyneux and Percy Parker of PPQ, and Hussein Chalayan. Each Wednesday at 15:00 BST, SHOWstudio.com will launch a new selection of video portraits captured on a specific date, the series as a whole documenting not only this ground-breaking live shoot but a slice of twenty-first century popular culture. COMING UP LIVESTUDIO - MARY KATRANTZOU
Following today's stellar turn from master milliner Stephen Jones, Monday 6 December 2010 sees acclaimed London designer Mary Katrantzou take to the SHOWstudio.com LiveStudio - the latest in a series of live performances to mark our Florist show, and our tenth anniversary. Katrantzou's spring collection was universally acclaimed - not only as her finest to date, but as one of the best shows of the season - and, to cap it all, she recently became the latest recipient of the Swiss Textiles Award, one of the largest fashion prizes in the world previously won by luminaries including Alexander Wang, Rodarte and Marios Schwab. For her LiveStudio residency, Katrantzou will be re-interpreting one of the key pieces from her much-fêted S/S 2011 collection, albeit with a floral twist. Mary Katrantzou and team will be in the studio and streaming live from 10:00 GMT next Monday 6 December.
COMING UP IN FASHION, MARTINE SITBON - LIVE
Our next live In Fashion interview takes place tomorrow afternoon, with an exclusive one-on-one with cult French designer Martine Sitbon. A fixture of Paris fashion week since the eighties showing under her own name, as head designer of French stalwart Chloe and now under the Rue du Mail label. Under all labels, the Sitbon signature is evident - a hard rock edge and trademark mix of day and evening that has snared her a considerable cult following, including Hollywood heavyweights such as Cate Blanchett, Tilda Swinton and Gwyneth Paltrow. Martine Sitbon will be interviewed live by SHOWstudio.com Fashion Director Alexander Fury from 12:30 GMT tomorrow.
COMING UP IN FASHION, PROENZA SCHOULER
Interviewed earlier this year before the presentation of their stellar S/S 2011 collection, design duo Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler are the latest designers to be added to our ever-expanding In Fashion library. Discussing their interests, creative patterns and the dynamic of working as a duo, McCollough and Hernandez were captured in a rare moment of rest between seasons to reflect not only on the season just passed, but their careers to date and even something of the future to come. A compelling one-on-one (or, rather, two) with one of the most influential new New York labels in the past decade. In Fashion, Proenza Schouler launches Friday 3 December 2010 at 15:00 BST.
FROM THE SHOP HELLO FLOWERHEAD, 2010
As our newest exhibition Florist blooms into the wintry weather – long-term SHOWstudio collaborator and highly celebrated set designer – Andy Hillman stirs up the Shop space with his piece Hello Flowerhead. Originally created for a Tim Walker Vogue Italia couture shoot, the delicate pastel roses that swarm the entire head and balance on a ruff have been described by Hillman as a cross between West African Voodoo costume, Pierrot Clown and Kew gardens. Developed on the theme ‘fantasy’, the theatrical head-piece is sure to enchant, fascinate and captivate the viewer into a state of floral euphoria. [more]
