In advance of her latest offering for Autumn/Winter 2012, we profile her 'floating' brogues, the stand-out accessory from her Autumn/Winter 2011 show with Fashion East. A re-imagining of the classic gentleman's brogue, propped on tip-toe with a slab of perspex to render them innately feminine, Rocha's shoes are emblematic of her entire approach to fashion - an antidote to the fussy, over-feminised garments seen on other catwalks. CURRENT IN YOUR FACE: HAROLD OFFEH AND ELOISE CALANDRE


Those who missed Harold Offeh and Eloise Calandre's live performances in conjunction with the SHOWstudio Shop exhibition In Your Face can now watch three unique films showcasing each of the one-off art pieces. The two contemporary artists collaborated to explore portraiture, unpicking its capacity to challenge in a series of provocative, specially-staged vignettes. The first piece, entitled Smile, plays with the concept of social convention and this gesture of happiness and by transforming the smile into a painful endurance test. Building on this thought-provoking theme, the second performance explores the potentials and possibilities of facial expression, using Calandre's face as a screen for a re-projection of her features. For the final performance, Offeh builds on his existing body of work Covers, currently on show as part of In Your Face, recreating the cover of The Rolling Stones' Exile On Main Street by appearing as '3Ball Charlie', a thirties freakshow performer. Each unique and equally challenging, the unmissable works unravel complex ideas of race, identity and desire. [more]

COMING UP IN YOUR FACE: VOID OF COURSE


A new addition to the In Your Face series of live broadcasts comes from Irish fashion design duo Void of Course. Having already contributed to SHOWstudio's In Your Face exhibition with their triple-masked leather helmet, Void of Course extend their input to a live performance in-house at SHOWstudio's Bruton Place headquarters. Inspired by the somewhat anti-fashion references of Silence Of The Lambs' serial killer Buffalo Bill, Francis Bacon, surgery and mental deterioration and staged over the course of Milan fashion week (a riposte to that art versus commerce debate if ever there was one) this will undoubtedly be a performance to remember. CURRENT COLLECTIONS: NEW YORK AUTUMN/WINTER 2012


The New York Collections draw to their close after a marathon leg of shows - from the edgy appeal of Alexander Wang to establishment favourite Oscar de la Renta, and trend-setting Marc Jacobs back in his Monday PM slot and on finest form. Our intrepid trio of reporters - Indigo Clark, Stephanie LaCava and Kiki Georgiou - have reported live from the shows, alongside image updates in real-time from the NOWFASHION team and live blogs from Stylebubble founder Susanna Lau. COMING UP LEO


Launching exclusively on SHOWstudio on Wednesday 22 February 2012, in line with the London Fashion Week menswear showcase, Jez Tozer's fashion film series Leo takes a fresh look at contemporary menswear. Compiled from six parts, each aesthetically representing a different emotional state, Tozer's film stars aerialist Leo Hedman in a sequence of gravity-defying acrobatic moves, alongside equally startling fashion. Selected by stylist Anna Trevelyan, the outfits come courtesy of London's latest crop of menswear talents, including Nasir Mazhar, Void of Course, Matther Miller and Alex Mattsson, framed by the established designs of Walter Van Beirendonck and Mugler. An exciting collection of some of the seasons key looks linked by incredible performances, a focused approach and a tight conceptual narrative, tune in next week to see the thought-provoking pieces for yourself.


FROM THE SHOP PAX6, 2011


London based artist and photographer Walter Hugo’s most recent work explores the unobserved around us by placing it skilfully and strikingly In Your Face. Titled after the recently discovered gene, which controls the development our sensory organs in the womb and potentially dictates the nature of a person, having an impact upon their choices and ultimately their place within the world, Hugo’s work combines this with a Victorian obsession with anthropometry and specimen taking. Taking reference from both, and utilising the most modern silicon casting techniques alongside early photographic hand painted emulsions, he adeptly combines old and new technologies. PAX6 is a trio of plaster heads that have been cast from the faces of the homeless. Hugo has then photographically printed images of each individual on their own face, using his personally evolved technique with silver nitrate emulsion, and thus creating a perfect blend of sculpture and three-dimensional image. The beautiful and eerie nature of this forced observation of the so frequently forgotten compels questions of fate, environment and situation. [more]

As preparations for Gareth Pugh's Autumn/Winter 2012 show in Paris enter their final stages, revisit one of the designer's most iconic designs - the trademark inflatable balloons first featured in his Central Saint Martins BA graduation collection. Pugh was the sixth contributor to offer up a pattern for SHOWstudio's Design_Download series, allowing his followers a chance to engage with his theatrical, conceptual work. Like many of Pugh’s designs, the bold fabric spheres featured in the pattern are inspired by graphic shape and dramatic proportion, walking a fine line between outré fashion statement and sartorial performance art. CURRENT VISIONS COUTURE
This week sees the culmination of the Visions Couture project as Le Printemps Paris reveals its spring 2012 windows, created under the direction of Nick Knight and exploring some of the finest of Spring/Summer 2012 through fashion film, sculpture and interactivity. Our project offers global viewers a unique chance to experience Visions Couture, showcasing fashion films and interactives from each of the windows, and shortly launching renders of the statuesque re-creations of Daphne Guinness that allow you to twist around her form in three-dimensions. Daniel Brown's interactive explore the five vitrine themes - Flora, Dark Knight, House and Garden, Death Becomes Her and Nature at Night - through viewer-generated imagery, each affected by the motion of your own body on webcam. Nick Knight's fashion films offer a showcase of creations by some of contemporary fashion's key visionaries - Paco Rabanne, Gareth Pugh, Maison Martin Margiela, Rick Owens and Junya Watanabe. Combining next season's clothes with pieces drawn from Daphne Guinness' own legendary wardrobe, the films are not only a feast for the eyes, but for the ears too, as each is set to a truly one-off soundtrack of operatic arias or spoken word poetry in Guinness' own voice. CURRENT DESIGN_DOWNLOAD: STEPHEN JONES


In his own words, millinery maestro Stephen Jones has been adding the 'exclamation mark' to the collections of designers as diverse as Comme des Garçons, John Galliano and Marc Jacobs, for over thirty years with his always witty, often whimsical and usually fantastical headwear. For 2012, Jones offers SHOWstudio viewers the chance to download a piece from his latest Autumn/Winter collection - a classic beret-inspired cut-and-sew style that can be made by anyone and everyone. True haute millinery for the masses, we invite Jones' global fanbase to download his millinery (re)invention, craft your own version and send images of your hats to design_download@showstudio.com to be included in our Design_Download submissions gallery. The latest addition to In Your Face: Music, this Friday SHOWstudio will be featuring more performers ready to express their unique musical language at SHOWstudio's Bruton Place headquarters. Following intimate and personal performances by electropop legend Gary Numan and Cerebral Ballzy frontman Honor Titus are British singer/songwriter Vula and French-based musician o F F Love. Starting off with o F F Love's performance at 12:00 GMT and continuing with Vula at 14:30 GMT, we will be streaming these one-off performances live this Friday 10 February 2012. [more]

Recently describing herself as the 'grandmother of performance art' Marina Abramović has spent her life pioneering performance art as a visual art form. Exposing herself to pain, danger and even death Abramović uses her self within her work to undergo a spiritual and emotional transformation before of the viewer. In her seminal piece AAA-AAA, Abramović explores her relationship as a lover with long term partner Ulay. Facing each other they begin to scream, moving themselves and their mounting noise towards each others open mouths, marrying ideas of romance and conflict while leaving the viewer wary of the dynamics between the two subjects. AAA-AAA explores the limits of the struggle to form a bond within relationships and a gives a unique insight into the life of a revolutionary artist. As Visions Couture launches in the vitrines of Parisian department store Le Printemps, revisit Taking Liberty's, our residency in the windows of London's Victorian landmark retailer Libertys. Exploring the spontaneous creativity and exuberance of London’s streets. Originally broadcast in 2004, an interactive camera and sensor was placed in the window of Liberty’s on Regent Street, inviting passers-by to capture their ‘look’ for a competition judged by stylist Katy England, who was invited to draw up a shortlist of ten finalists. A phenomenal response from over 17,000 participants proved the street as fertile a breeding ground for fashion imagery as the photographic studio. Indeed, the project spawned a reprise - Taking More Liberty's - as part of SHOWstudio: Fashion Revolution in October 2009, with the best look this time judged by fashion designer Gareth Pugh. A further example of British street style at its best - compare and contrast with the Parisian public interacting with Daniel Brown's unique multimedia designs as part of Visions Couture! [more]

COMING UP IN YOUR FACE: HAROLD OFFEH AND ELOISE CALANDRE
This Friday 3 February 2012 sees the latest in our live series of performances in conjunction with the SHOWstudio Shop exhibition In Your Face. Contemporary artists Harold Offeh and Eloise Calandre collaborate to explore concepts of portraiture and its capacity to challenge and provoke in a series of three one-off performances, throughout the day. The first, from 13:00 GMT is titled Smile, playing with the concept of this gesture of friendship and approval and transforming it to a painful endurance test. Building on this provocative theme, the second performance from 15:00 GMT explores the potentials and possibilities of facial expression, using Calandre's face as a screen for a re-projection of her face. For the final performance, broadcast from 17:00 GMT, Offeh will add to his existing body of work Covers, currently on show as part of In Your Face, recreating the cover of The Rolling Stones' Exile On Main Street by appearing as '3Ball Charlie', a thirties freakshow performer. By using the primary mediums of popular culture - photography and video - Offeh and Calandre's performances will explore portraiture in a new way, unravelling complex ideas of race, identity and desire. Tune in on Friday 3 February 2012 at 13:00 GMT, 15:00 GMT and 17:00 GMT to see these unique performance pieces live and direct.


CURRENT DEATH CAMP


The latest offering of filmmaker and photographer Joseph Lally can now be viewed exclusively on SHOWstudio. Entitled Death Camp, Lally describes the work as 'a controversial film which states that Earth is being transformed into a death camp. That culture, humanity, nature, art and democracy are near extinction.' Naturally, the film takes a pessimistic, dark tone offering a glimpse into the problems of modern life and the depravity of mankind. Taking inspiration from the visuals of Jean Luc Godard and the writings of Bernard-Henri Lévy, Roland Barthes and Susan Sontag, Death Camp explores topics as varied as race, gender, drug use, violence and sexual exploitation. The film rejects a conventional narrative, instead relying on visuals, sound and dialogue to create a vision of the world as a death camp, where everything and everyone is doomed. [more]

Milliner Stephen Jones is the latest master creative to offer up a pattern for SHOWstudio's Design_Download series. The series allow readers a unique opportunity to create their own version of fashion masterpieces - so get creative and send your submissions in to our gallery. This is the first time that Jones has offered a pattern for download, allowing the public at large an insight into the visionary creative behind the hats for labels such as Comme des Garçons, Giles Deacon and Marc Jacobs. This is a 'cut and sew' creation that requires no specialist millinery materials or training to realise its stunning form - once you've crafted your own work of millinery art submit your images via email - design_download@showstudio.com - or via Twitter tagged #design_download for a chance to be featured on-site in the SHOWstudio Submissions Gallery. CURRENT BEHIND THE SEAMS: HOLY GHOSTS


In our first Behind The Seams article of 2012, SHOWstudio contributing fashion journalist Stephanie LaCava examines the idea of fashion as religion: but rather than shopping as religious experience, LaCava unravels the religious references that abound in the latest crop of shows. Balenciaga is key - after all, his couture maison was the closest to a chapel, so it's fitting that the contemporary inheritor of his heavy mantle, Nicolas Ghesquiere, is the lynchpin of this exploration. Unpicking a veritable litany of Spring/Summer 2012 collections - namely the aforementioned Balenciaga alongside Rei Kawakubo's Comme Des Garçons and Rick Owens - LaCava examines the 'Holy Ghosts' that continue to inspire so much of fashion today. FROM THE SHOP COVERS, AFTER FUNKADELIC, MAGGOT BRAIN, 1971, 2009


Harold Offeh’s work fuses together familiar cultural references, found footage and often his own image to create pieces playing with race, identity and expression. In his Covers series, Offeh recreates three musical album covers; Grace Jones, Island Life, 1985, The Ohio Players, Honey, 1975 and Funkadelic’s Maggot Brain, 1971, placing himself as the subject. By recreating and reapproproating these iconic covers - the title itself a reference to the musical tradition of the 'cover', where a band offers their own rendition of another's greatest hits - Offeh transforms a static image which defined a collection of music into a durational performance which he himself controls. Playing with humour and expectation each of the series gives Offeh a new platform to speak through other’s images and our own expectations. FROM THE ARCHIVE DESIGN_DOWNLOAD: JOHN GALLIANO


Our eighth Design_Download comes from Stephen Jones - a long-time collaborator of British designer John Galliano - who, incidentally, contributed the second of our downloads back in June 2003. Galliano's pattern is still available today, offering the public the chance to unravel Galliano's fiendishly complex 'Pirate' jacket - an exclusive Galliano design that first appeared on the catwalk in his Autumn/Winter 2001 Techno-Romance collection. Deceptively deconstructed, the jacket appears to be held together by sail rivets, buckles and ties, but in actual fact is a complex example of corsetry, skilled tailoring and the Couture workmanship that have defined Galliano's ground-breaking contribution to contemporary fashion. New designer alert - NEGARIN

As you know, i'm more of a highstreet kinda girl, but i also get excited and have to blog about new designers too from time to time, after all it is the designers who ultimately influence our high street stores and what we wear.

Well i've just discovered NEGARIN after receiving an invite to their New York Fashion Week show, which i regretfully have had to pass up on due to my commitments in here in London (and lack of airfare). but here is a glimpse of the SS12 range. I am really impressed by the elegant yet modern designs and prints.

A leading figure in international fashion for three decades, Jones' work has garnered international acclaim ever since his graduation from Central Saint Martins in 1979. For SHOWstudio, Jones contributed a piece that epitomises the seemingly contradictory qualities of whimsical fantasy, stunning technique and unexpected practicality that characterise his work. A 'cut and sew' creation that requires no specialist millinery materials or training to realise its stunning form, Jones' hat is an exaggeration on the classic beret. CURRENT VISIONS COUTURE


Le Printemps, Paris offers their take on the Spring/Summer 2012 collections, interpreting the theme of 'Visions Couture' in a ground-breaking collaboration with Nick Knight, Daphne Guinness and SHOWstudio. Ahead of the unveiling of the final vitrines in February, from 18:00 GMT/10:00 PST on 27-28 January 2012 we re-stream the entire real-time footage of this extraordinary two-day shoot, starring Guinness in a selection of exceptional pieces from Paco Rabanne, Gareth Pugh, Maison Martin Margiela, Rick Owens and Junya Watanabe. Hopefully this will be grist to the inspirational mill, as your picture submissions are a vital element of the project's final realisation. Nick Knight invites SHOWstudio viewers to submit their own images inspired by one of the following five themes: Dark Knight, Flora, House and Garden, Death Becomes Her and Nature at Night. 'The history of our planet is one of a death camp. The planet history is one of violence, corruption and conspiracy.' so states photographer and filmmaker Joseph Lally, whose new film Death Camp takes a dark, morbid tone exploring the depravity of modern existence and the failure of humankind. Inspired by the visuals of Jean Luc Godard and the writings of Bernard-Henri Lévy, Roland Barthes and Susan Sontag, Death Camp features a mix of vintage footage and new material As with Lally's previous films the piece eschews a conventional narrative, instead relying on sound and striking visuals to create a vision of the world as a death camp, covering topics as varied as race, gender, drug use, violence and sexual exploitation. Death Camp launches on SHOWstudio on Monday 30 January 2012 at 17.00 GMT/10.00 EST

In his debut series of drawings Sauna Faces London based artist Stephen Doherty creates an intriguing and emotive set of characters against coloured paper. Drawing from people he has met and imagined Sauna Faces are touchingly intimate portraits of gay sauna goers. Doherty utilises each anecdotally named character, from Rotund Diva to Drunk Kiss, to explore the spectrum of emotions felt within a sauna. From first timers to regular and one off users, Sauna Faces brings together the common feelings Doherty feels must be shared by these men. The loneliness, hope, and vulnerability bring together each face to reflect to the viewer Doherty’s viewpoint of their surroundings which are so rarely explored. [more]

Last year the haute couture collections had a decidedly Asian theme, prominent not only in an influx of new Far Eastern clients but in the pastel embroidery and luxurious silks that inspired fashion's finest. To celebrate this Nick Knight shot Shanghai-born model Ming Xi in a selection of the most covetable creations from Spring/Summer 2011 exclusively for V magazine. COMING UP POWER DRESSING


From 22-23 January 2011, model Lara Stone and stylist Carine Roitfeld collaborate with Nick Knight for Power Dressing, a live fashion shoot with a difference inspired by the notion of combining self-defence with high-fashion. Specifically for this shoot, Stone trained in Krav Maga, a system developed by the Israeli Defence Forces, and is captured in a series of scenarios defending herself whilst modelling Rotifeld's choice of Spring/Summer 2012 fashion for V Magazine. The entire shoot will be streamed live, so tune in on Sunday and Monday to see all the action from the set.


CURRENT COLLECTIONS: MILAN AND PARIS MENSWEAR A/W 2012


Designers have unveiled their first Collections for Autumn/Winter 2012 - for men that is, albeit a glimpse into the moment that usually heralds a few clues for the womenswear offerings to be unveiled in a month's time. Pitti Immagine was the first, giving us a new vision of the Valentino man, quickly followed by a veritable designer deluge in Milan, with Dolce e Gabbana, Jil Sander, Prada and Versace offering visions from La Scala opulence through Modernist tailoring to serial killer chic. Paris is the next stop, with SHOWstudio Contributing fashion journalist Hywel Davies, who will be reporting live from Paris covering the likes of Yohji Yamamoto, Dior Homme, Lanvin, Givenchy and Yves Saint Laurent alongside live image uploads from the NOWFASHION team. SHOWstudio Shop mixed the black humour of duo littlewhitehead into our In Your Face exhibition with their daring and dark 2010 sculpture Any Last Thoughts?. littlewhitehead draw from their experience of working class, post industrial Glasgow in collaborative mixed media sculptures of life sized figures. Their piece visually explores the feeling of increasingly normalised violence as a tool of communal identity, drawing together people and places under the same darkly comic flag. With a wish to 'beat you up visually,' littlewhitehead creates a scene of amusement by drawing fragments of our darkest fears into the light. Any Last Thoughts? brings violence and crime teasingly close to the viewer to unnerve, alarm and darkly amuse. [more]


FROM THE ARCHIVE NAOMI CAMPBELL: STATUESQUE


Three-dimensional fashion photography - or fashion sculpture, as it can be more pithily dubbed - is the centrepiece of Nick Knight's Visions Couture concept for the vitrines of Le Printemps, Paris. But it was also the centrepiece of SHOWstudio: Fashion Revolution back in 2009, courtesy of a monolithic sculpture of supermodel Naomi Campell, a triple-exposed photograph rendered in three dimensions, and thirty or so feet high. Inviting viewers to utilise Naomi's body as a conduit for global communication, exhibition goers and online viewers alike were able to 'graffiti' across her with projected light, while microphones placed in and around her body picked up visitors' audio responses and broadcast them worldwide. Our project Naomi Campbell: Statuesque documents both the final installation - showcasing a ten-minute extract of over three hours of footage captured over the three-month exhibition run, alongside a tour narrated by Nick Knight of the exhibit itself - and also the all-important process behind scanning Naomi in three-dimensions and recreating this Supermodel, super-sized. FROM THE SHOP ANDROGYNY (SIX MEN + SIX WOMEN), 1982


Nancy Burson has created provocative insights into race, beauty and identity by pioneering the cohesion of art and science. Working with MIT engineers during the 1980’s to create photo composites which 'morphed' together faces, her work questions the make up of humanity as well as it's unity. Mankind gives a portrait made up the percentages of different races in the population, in an attempt to create an actual picture of our population's face, whereas Androgyny brings together the faces of six men and six women to represent a hybrid face of the sexes. Collaborating through installation, performance, sculpture and photography since the mid 1980’s, the Gao Brothers have long tackled feelings of isolation, otherness and dispossession. In Wake, a piece from their Sense of Space series, the Gao Brothers confinement of their subjects physically within the half abandoned cupboards opens the viewer to the narrative of isolation and compartmentalisation. While there are numerous men in the composition none can speak to the other. But it is through this isolation that the Gao Brother's join them, making a more universal comment on how ultimately we are not alone. [more]

Kylie Minogue, Nick Rhodes, Bobby Gillespie and Julie Verhoeven were just some of the leading fashion, music and art creatives who came together for Lyric, a 2004 film project that broke new creative ground using the latest 'third generation' mobile-imaging technologies. Each contributor or creative pairing was asked to make a series of short films, or 'motion clips', that visually interpret the song lyrics of their choice - including Donna Summer's 'I Feel Love', Goldfrapp's 'Strict Machine' and Barry Manilow's 'Copacabana' - producing one clip for each lyric line. The films were recorded via a Motorola phone with video call facility on 3's video mobile network. [more]

New year, new wardrobe!

Ok ladies, the new year is fast approaching and if your anything like me you'll be fed up and bored with your wardrobe and wanting a new look for the fresh new year. But what do you do when you've got very little to spend in the sales?? Well my advice is firstly go through your wardrobe and be ruthless, put the bits that you no longer like, fit or have not worn for a year or more and put them all on eBay, even if they only sell for £0.99 per item (they will sell for more, especially if branded like topshop, mss Selfridge etc), you'll be surprised at how much it all adds up and depending on how much you've got to sell, you could end up with a £100 to spend on new stuff, well worth it for the afternoon that it will take you to list them.

My second tip is to shop the sales online and avoid all that pushing and shoving and tiresome wondering around from shop to shop. The good points to this are -

1. It's easier to stick to a budget as most sites you can browse by price
2. You can take your time to really have a good look around, put things into your basket then go back later.
3. The biggest positive is that unlike real sale shopping, you wont end up coming home with stuff that you will never wear but just had to have as it was a bargain at£5
4. All this and you can do it in the comfort of your own home and at anytime, with a nice cuppa/glass of wine, music on and feet up... Ahhh.

COMING UP IN YOUR FACE: BERNARD-HENRI LÉVY


The next sitter for our In Your Face: Interview series is influential and inflammatory French philosopher, intellectual and journalist Bernard-Henri Lévy. Captured before delivering a lecture for Intelligence Squared at the Royal Geographical Society in London, Lévy speaks candidly on his career, beliefs and tempestuous life in the public eye. Lévy's In Your Face interview will launch on Friday 16 December.


COMING UP MAGGIE CHEUNG, CENTRE STAGE


Captured on camera during Nick Knight's shoot for Vogue China in 2009, this film showcases an exclusive interview with Chinese actress, composer and philanthropist Maggie Cheung. Alongside fashion film of Cheung in creations from Balenciaga, Lanvin, Stella McCartney and Louis Vuitton, she discusses her life and work in an intimate and revealing video portrait, to be launched on SHOWstudio next week.


FROM THE SHOP FROM THE SERIES 'HAND-TAINTED POSTCARD', 2009


Creating a daring juxtaposition between the innocence and nostalgia of vintage postcards and artist Tim Shaw’s view of macho symbols and images from mass media today, Hand-Tainted Postcard merges two worlds both conceptually and visually. Using unexpected mediums in each work, these postcards marry traditional images with silicone, pornography and fish skin to give each piece a rich identity of excessive ambiguity and yet, because the work pulls from mainstream imagery, there is something seductively familiar about each portrait. FROM THE ARCHIVE BRING & BUY


Patti Smith, Yoko Ono, Tilda Swinton and Björk - these were just some of the names that donated garments to SHOWstudio's Bring & Buy in July 2005. All piece received were featured in a unique Nick Knight shoot for the October 2005 issue of i-D, starring the likes of Erin O’Connor, Naomi Campbell and Karolina Kurkova modelling unique fashions realised by an army of international stylists. The truly one-off clothes were then auctioned on eBay in aid of Oxfam - but our project profiles the entire process from receipt of the packages through to the shoot itself, captured on fashion film by Nick Knight and edited by Ruth Hogben. COMING UP DESIGN_DOWNLOAD


Launched in 2002, SHOWstudio's Design_Download series has a simple and direct aim: to help demystifying the fashion process by offering prestigious designer garment patterns for download via the Internet. After exploring patterns from some of the most important fashion designers of our time - including John Galliano, Alexander McQueen, Yohji Yamamoto and Maison Martin Margiela - the latest Design_Download will be launched on SHOWstudio this month, allowing viewers the unique chance to make a one-off garment designed by a true British fashion legend. With Kate Moss covering Paris Vogue in a jumpsuit and Diamond Dogs coif (for the second time, that is: Nick Knight having first photographed Moss in Bowie drag back in 2003), this week's Behind The Seams article explores the aesthetic legacy and eternal influence of the great David Bowie. From Thin White Duke through to Ziggy, Bowie's countenance can still be seen stamped across contemporary fashion, with his ghost haunting catwalks from designers as diverse as Balmain, Dries Van Noten and Richard Nicoll. Dinos Chapman, one half of controversial art duo the Chapman Brothers, is the first of our In Your Face: Interview series - a twist on the coaxing and cajoling tradition of coercive interviewing prevalent in art and fashion journalism that presents the interview as a confrontational conversation to profile a series of figures from the worlds of art, fashion and celebrity. The up-close and personal interview with Dinos Chapman launches on Friday November 9 2011.

Performers including Gary Numan, Ladyhawke, Luke Pritchard and Cerebral Ballzy have accepted SHOWstudio's invitation to perform their most emotive and emotional songs, in a stripped-back, intimate and entirely personal set. Streamed live on SHOWstudio and then available on-demand, each In Your Face: Music performance is a unique one-off and a musical reflection of the latest SHOWstudio Shop exhibition. The opening performances, from skater punk five-piece Cerebral Ballzy and electronic pioneer Gary Numan, stream live next Wednesday and Thursday respectively.

Fraser Hamilton's Idols collection uses monumental, sculptural and statuesque archetypes as - monoliths, totem poles, obelisks and heads, hands and busts - miniaturised into jewellery, hence subverting their inherent stature. Some items are upturned into personal idols while others adapt to the body treating it as a sort of sculpture park; figures recline on fingers, pendants with limbs and earrings with heads reach in bosoms or whisper into ears. These one-off pieces have been carved out of a solid block of wax, cast in bronze, and then plated in gold and silver. Each transformed element treats the body as a playground attempting to narrate its object status or stand tall as a monumental idol - uniquely designed for women or men who enjoy making a statement. FROM THE ARCHIVE DESIGN_DOWNLOAD: ALEXANDER MCQUEEN


With a new Design_Download set to launch later this month, it felt fitting (pardon the pun) to chose a piece from our existing archive of exclusive one-off designer pieces. From one of the world's foremost fashion designers came the third in our series of downloadable garments - Alexander McQueen allows us to examine and assemble his pattern for a beautiful kimono-inspired jacket from the Autumn/Winter 2003 collection. The brutally sharp tailoring, for which this label is synonymous, is seen in the jacket’s strong linear construction and carefully layered fabric sections. A collision of Western Victoriana and Eastern traditional dress, this garment, like so much of McQueen’s work, references historical detailing, whilst remaining quintessentially modern. [more]

Amanda Harlech - Paris - 6th December 2011 Chanel's show date for its metiers d'art spirit of India, Paris - Bombay. The set at the Grand Palais is an elegant Moghul palace hung with chandeliers. A vast table piled with roses, tiers of fruits the colour of an 18c miniature, gilded glass and ropes of tuberoses. A silver train carrying decanters chugs around the perimeter of the table cloth. Karl has created his other world with genius set designer Stephen - alias Lulu. [more]

Marie Schuller - Second Interview in Marrakech: Roland Joffe SHOWstudio continues covering the Marrakech International Film Festival. The second interview of the day was held with legendary director Roland Joffé who told us in detail how he bribed his way into Cambodia with Coca Cola products prior to shooting his Oscar nominated film The Killing Fields in the country. COMING UP IN YOUR FACE
The latest exhibition to be staged in the SHOWstudio Shop space, In Your Face is a jolt to the senses, colliding agitprop pieces from the world of fashion, fine art and film. The title reveals a duality, a reference to confrontation and also the immediately and universally legible language of the portrait. The exhibition includes works by artists, fashion designers and filmmakers - including Robert Mapplethorpe, Marina Abramovic, Douglas Gordon, Santiago Sierra, Nick Knight, Stephen Jones, Nasir Mazhar and Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel amongst many more - who have engaged with the corporeal and the body as matter and in doing so have created works which resonate in a wider political sphere. The exhibition is also reflected in the online programming of SHOWstudio and the celebration of a major relaunch of the site, with a new visual identity and fresh approach to always-outstanding fashion film and editorial content. Up-front, direct and sometimes brutal, In Your Face explores the contradictions, difficulties and traumatic engagements involved in our relationship to the world. CURRENT GARETH PUGH FOR M.A.C


A further development from Ruth Hogben and Gareth Pugh's electric collaboration for Spring/Summer 2012, this latest dark and edgy fashion film, showcasing Pugh's first foray into make-up for M.A.C Inspired by the contrast of black and white - or light and darkness - this film takes a fresh approach to the well-established tradition of cosmetic advertisement by showcasing the powder and pigment of the Pugh range in motion. Showcased online at SHOWstudio.com, a selection of signature, specially-fashioned faces for the twenty-first century, crafted with stylist Katie Shillingford and make-up maestro Val Garland, are captured for posterity by Hogben's lens in this unique fashion film. From precious Chinese silks of the Renaissance to the orient excess of Mary Katrantzou's Autumn/Winter 2011 Xing Dynasty-print dresses, Richard Nicoll's post-modern Poiret and Sarah Burton's shattered porcelain bodices at Alexander McQueen, the Far East has held indefinable exotic appeal for fashion designers. Today however, China is more than just a source of inspiration - it has become the latest financial promised land for high fashion. First up, the leader of Central Saint Martin's internationally acclaimed MA fashion course, the woman behind world-renowned names such as Alexander McQueen, Christopher Kane and Mary Katrantzou, and one of the most influential women in global fashion today, fashion authority Professor Louise Wilson OBE is interviewed by journalist and author Hywel Davies from 11:00 GMT on Tuesday 6 December 2011. Hank Willis Thomas has gained wide recognition with his highly provocative works of art, which address the commodification of African-American male identity by raising questions about visual culture and the power of logos. Through his powerful, message-driven works, Hank Willis Thomas engages with issues of grief, black-on-black violence in America and the ways in which corporate culture is complicit in the crises of black male identity. The artist's characteristic pointedness and dark humour has propelled him into the art world and established him as one of today's most compelling emerging artists. With this piece, entitled Black Power, Thomas incorporates elements of the black male stereotype in a way that is direct, confrontational, and clearly 'In Your Face.' [more]

Back in July 2005, the fashionable likes of Peter Saville, Julie Verhoeven, Bay Garnett, Judy Blame and Nick Knight created a selection of T-shirt graphics exclusively for SHOWstudio. The British Fashion Awards 2011 - and the winners are... Honouring the greats of Great British fashion We Brits love any excuse for a bit of flag-waving and a rousing chorus of God Save The Queen. Both were firmly - if metaphorically - in place last night at the 2011 British Fashion Awards (metaphorical until the post-show party, that is). Held at the swish and savvy Savoy, the awards honoured the great and greater of Great British fashion. Everyone's a winner, as Hot Chocolate once said, and the strength of British fashion right now means we all benefit from the talent roster of names drawing attention to London. That's the truth. Keehnan Konyha - Versace at Home I: Casa Casuarina "Casa Casuarina was originally built in 1930 by Alden Freeman, an eccentric philanthropist, as an homage to the Alcázar de Colón, a mansion built in 1510 in Santo Domingo that was home to Christopher Columbus's son Diego. (Freeman named the house after the casuarina tree, an Australian breed that was standing on the site when Freeman began building.) Diego had been viceroy of the Indies, and his wife was related to the Spanish monarchs, so the original Alcázar de Colón had Moorish, Spanish, and Byzantine influences. [more]
